Guess Who's Back?
Hello from Rwanda! We arrived safe and sound yesterday after flying for almost 18 hours. I (Angela) personally cannot believe that we are back; it all seems surreal...Again! I think the hardest part so far is to try to not compare the trip to last year's trip. It is different by far, but equally exciting! One major difference is that we went from a trip of 7 to a trip of 28! Holy amazing!!! The team is functioning well together and we had a great first day in Bunyana village, after a 3 hour drive.
One of the first people we saw after arriving in Bunyana was Gaspard, the husband of the family we sponsor through GFR. I cannot describe how exciting it was to revisit with Gaspard! Last year we had only sponsored him for 3 months before we first met him. He looked extremely skinny, malnourished, and desperation was instilled in his eyes. HE looked hollow. Since then he has started running his own restaurant, tripling the amount of sponsorship we give him monthly. He is taking care of his family now! Today when we first saw him, he walked out of his restaurant with a HUGE smile on his face and we hardly recognized him! His stride had changed; it was one that let us know that we had helped him make something of himelf! He is so overjoyed that we can be a part of his life.
With dust filling our nostrils and drying out our eyes we made our way back to the guest house- totally exhausted. We had learned new words, played games, laughed, and reached out to touch both new and familiar faces. This is a new journey- even though we have been here before... We look forward to tomorrow.
